Let's pretend this page had umpteen downloadable MP3 samplers and blurb about me as a musician. It's the primary page my fans (like you) visit in order to find out what's new, what's cooking, etc.
Let's also pretend that I tend to make a new composition once every three months or so. I usually either publish this as a recording by offering it as an MP3 download, or if it's really good I try and sell it to a publisher for inclusion on a sampler or something (if I'm trying for that elusive record deal).
However, I'm wondering if this new QuidMusic site could provide me with another, potentially better source of revenue.
It's free to enrol, and I just need to put a button on this webpage like so:
Apparently, if you are a fan of my music, and want to support me, you can pledge me a quid, i.e. by clicking the button and pledging to pay £1 for the next single I release through QuidMusic.
What's in it for you? Well, if I don't release anything via QuidMusic, it doesn't cost you anything. However, if I do choose to accept your pledge, your quid gets you a high quality digital master as well as an MP3.
Ah, but what's in it for me? Well, the theory goes that if I have enough fans like you doing this, it might just persuade me to release it to you directly, rather than via a publisher. I might also even choose to release it under a Creative Commons license if I don't mind you sharing it.
So what are you waiting for? Click the button and pledge a quid!
Naturally, if you're a new user of QuidMusic you'll need to register and open an account with ten pounds, but don't worry, if you don't use it you can get a full refund.
Remember, if I don't release anything, you don't pay anything. And moreover, you can cancel your pledge at any time (unless I release something - obviously).
